The Role
We’re looking for an experienced Payroll Lead to oversee Orora’s end-to-end payroll operations, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payment for employees across Australia and New Zealand. This role will lead a payroll team, manage complex systems and legislative requirements, and partner with stakeholders across HR, Finance, IT, and external vendors to drive service excellence. You’ll also champion continuous improvement, governance, and risk management across all payroll activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end payroll processing, including oversight of tasks completed by the managed service provider.
- Manage, coach, and develop the payroll team to build capability and drive high performance.
- Ensure payroll compliance, strong governance, audit readiness, and effective risk and controls management.
- Oversee Pay & Time systems, data integrity, integrations, and reporting, ensuring adherence to system governance and privacy legislation.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships and act as the escalation point for complex payroll issues.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimise processes, enhance accuracy, and strengthen employee experience.
- Manage payroll vendors to ensure service delivery aligns with agreed SLAs.
- Support the team with back-up processing as needed
What We’re Looking For
- Experience managing end-to-end payroll for large, complex employee groups (1000+), ideally in manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, Awards/EBAs, superannuation, tax, and compliance; NZ experience a bonus.
- Proven leadership capability with experience coaching and developing team members.
- Hands-on experience with payroll, HRIS, and time & attendance systems (e.g., SAP SuccessFactors, ADP, My Workplace).
- High attention to detail, strong numeracy, and advanced Excel skills.
- Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements and strengthen payroll controls.
