Director of Operations

 

Summary of the Role and How You’ll Fit In

The role of a Director of Operations encompasses a diverse set of responsibilities that blend operational management and strategic leadership to drive organizational excellence and success. This multifaceted position integrates operational excellence duties, requiring a deep understanding of organizational processes, strategic agility, and the ability to foster a culture of continuous improvement in order to effectively meet business objectives. The job description includes a wide array of responsibilities that highlight the strategic and operational acumen required for this integrated role.
 

  • This position reports to the: VP of Operations
  • Travel Requirement: up to 15% as needed.
  • FLSA Status: Salaried

 

What You’ll be Responsible For

 

Operational Oversight and Management

  • Daily Operations- ensures safety is a priority on site, drive OPS safety objectives while cultivating a risk-based approach.
  • Manage day-to-day operational activities ensuring that respective functions comply with internal, and external safety requirements and run safely and efficiently.
  • Implement operational processes and optimize efficiencies by managing to operational goals as well as budgets and resources.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and manage operational staff.
  • Drive a systematic approach to continuous improvement, quality and customer satisfaction while minimizing waste and cost.
  • Strategic Execution: support creation and implementation of operational strategies that support Orora’s long-term goals.
  • Change Management and Agility: Driving change initiatives and fostering a culture of adaptability and innovation across operational functions.
  • Foster a culture of ongoing improvement, innovation and structured problem solving within the departments (production, maintenance, potential engineering group, documentation control, continuous improvement, etc. Out of scope: Sales, Procurement, CS, Scheduling, Cartage)
  • Manage and optimize the utilization of resources such as personnel and equipment to support operations.
  • Production Planning: Determine the best production methods and design efficient manufacturing layouts to meet production goals. This involves forecasting demand, calculating capacity requirements, and making strategic recommendations about the production process.
  • Quality Control: Implement quality assurance protocols and oversee quality management within the operation and in
    partnership with the enterprise quality function to ensure goods are produced to specifications and meet standards.

 

Team Leadership and Management

  • Managing Staff: Oversight of operational leadership, providing leadership, guidance, and support to ensure operational success and employee development.
  • Building and Growing Operational Excellence Capabilities: Leading efforts to establish a culture of continuous improvement and grow the organization's operational excellence capabilities.
  • Leadership and Team Development: cascade strategic vision, empower, develop, innovative leadership, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

 

Process Improvement and Optimization

  • Developing Continuous Improvement Programs: Designing and executing programs to enhance operational efficiency and drive cost-saving initiatives.
  • Process Improvement and Optimization: Analyzing current processes, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing solutions to optimize workflows.
  • Financial Acumen and Budget Management: Responsible for managing the local budget, ensuring financial and operational targets are met, and making investment recommendations in partnership with the VP of Operations that align with the company's financial health.

 

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring compliance with regulations and standards relevant to operational processes.
  • Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating operational risks to maintain the integrity and resilience of operational functions.

 

Strategic Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Stakeholder Management and Relationship Building: Engaging effectively with a variety of stakeholders in functional areas such as EHS, Quality, Procurement, HR, et al. including coworkers, senior management, suppliers, and customers, to ensure that operational decisions are well-informed and broadly supported.
  • Strategic Operations Management: Aligning operations to achieve long-term objectives efficiently, optimizing resources, and driving proactive solutions.
  • Performs other duties and/ or responsibilities as assigned.

 

What We’re Looking For
 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in operations management, or related field.
  • Lean Manufacturing and operational excellence capabilities
  • 5+ years of experience developing and implementing leadership development programs with proven results.
  • Leadership and People Management: Inspiring and leading teams, managing diverse groups of people, and driving organizational change.
  • Strategic Planning and Execution: Developing and implementing comprehensive operational strategies to support long-term goals.
  • Process Improvement and Optimization: Analyzing current processes, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing solutions to optimize workflows.
  • Financial Acumen and Budget Management: Understanding financial statements, controlling costs, and making investment decision that align with the organization's financial health.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: Conveying ideas, expectations, and changes within the organization effectively, and engaging with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Technology and Innovation: Staying abreast of the latest innovations to drive operational excellence and fostering an innovative mindset.

Preferred Education, Experience:

  • Master’s degree in operations management or related field.
  • 5+ years leading in Corrugated Mfg.
  • Supply Chain Management: Navigating global logistics challenges, implementing innovative supply chain strategies, and leveraging technology to ensure seamless operations.
