The Role

Orora's Cans business is growing! With rising demand across Australia, New Zealand, and Oceania, we're investing $140M into our Rocklea facility, ensuring we can continue to meet growing customer needs. This investment includes a new high-speed can body line, boosting our capacity by 50% and featuring cutting-edge decoration and quality systems.

The Production Manager leads all manufacturing operations at Rocklea, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost‑effective production. You’ll manage a team of around six, leading a large, multi‑shift workforce to embed best‑practice manufacturing standards and drive continuous improvement. The role is accountable for safety, quality, cost, and delivery outcomes, ensuring production teams consistently meet daily, weekly, and monthly targets. A key focus over the next 12 months will be commissioning Line 3, strengthening workforce capability, sustaining performance across all lines, and embedding standardised processes for ongoing operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day production operations to meet safety, quality, cost, and delivery targets
  • Drive performance through daily and weekly trend analysis, corrective actions, and standardisation
  • Maintain plant centrelines and respond to performance variations and out-of-spec events
  • Lead safety, environmental, and quality compliance in line with Orora’s ZERO Harm commitment
  • Build a capable, engaged, and flexible production workforce, including coaching and developing shift managers
  • Lead change initiatives and continuous improvement programs
  • Support enterprise agreement negotiations and employee relations initiatives
  • Partner closely with Engineering, Quality, Safety, and CI teams

About You

  • Proven experience as a Production Manager (or similar senior role) in high‑speed manufacturing.
  • Strong technical and problem‑solving background; trade or engineering qualifications highly regarded.
  • Experience leading large, multi‑shift teams in complex manufacturing environments, with strong people leadership and capability to handle challenging conversations.
  • Demonstrated success driving performance, change, and cultural uplift, with a collaborative approach and focus on celebrating team achievements.
  • Proven ability to perform in fast‑paced, high‑pressure manufacturing settings with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Strong problem‑solving capability with the ability to proactively remove roadblocks and enable teams to meet targets.
